Bunkyō Karate Dojo

Bunkyō Karate School is a community group in Bunkyō Ward, Tokyo. Our members range in age from 4 to 89, and we practise Goju-ryu (剛柔流) karate. At our dojo, families visiting from overseas can join the regular practice attended by Japanese children and experience karate, a Japanese martial art. The experience takes the form of “guest participation” added to our usual members’ practice, so you can feel the atmosphere of the dojo and Japanese martial-arts culture just as it is. Through welcoming participants from overseas in this way, our aim is to broaden children’s opportunities for international exchange. By practising alongside people of different cultures and languages, children naturally communicate with one another and deepen their respect for others and their understanding of diversity. Exchange through karate becomes a valuable experience that nurtures not only technique but also growth of the heart. Practice centres on etiquette (reihō), basic movements, and simple kata, and proceeds through a program designed with safety in mind. Our instructors give attentive support so that even beginners can take part comfortably. Family participation is also welcome, and practising together with Japanese children makes this a place for cultural exchange as well.

Classes are led by an instructor certified by the Tokyo Karatedo Federation, holding 3rd dan certified by the Japan Karatedo Federation and 5th dan from Bunkyō Karate Dojo.
