Mika Ballet Studio

A ballet studio that nurtures each person with care. At our studio, we cherish the fundamentals of ballet while carefully nurturing beauty of mind and body, and graceful dancing, in step with each person’s own growth. From beginners to those aiming for a higher level, everyone is welcome. In a warm, welcoming atmosphere, we value each person’s individuality and teach wholeheartedly, so you can feel the joy and depth of ballet. Please feel free to come and try a trial lesson first.

Mika Nakayama (Director) I began classical ballet at the age of 4, and from around age 10 I studied the fundamentals of French-method ballet (the Paris Opera school) under Chie Tomioka and Jacques Jodel in Chie Tomioka’s special class. From childhood I competed in numerous ballet competitions, placing highly — selected at the Tokyo Shimbun National Dance Competition, a finalist at the All Japan Ballet Competition, and among the top entrants at the Saitama Prefecture National Dance Competition and the Kobe Ballet Competition, among others. At 15, I went to Paris, France to train, and afterwards continued to take lessons and auditions in the UK and France, refining my craft both in Japan and abroad. In 2017 I also trained in Russia. On stage, I appeared in many works by Hiroki Urushibara and Ayako Ogawa at the Studio Ichibangai Sunday Performance, and danced soloist roles in Japan Ballet Association productions including Graduation Ball, Paquita, and Swan Lake. At the Young Ballet Festival in Osaka and Nagoya I danced the Black Swan pas de deux, and at the 7th Japan Ballet Festival I was selected to perform in the newcomer showcase work Pas de Fiancés. In 2007 I opened mika Ballet Studio in Nerima-ku, Tokyo, and in 2026 I reach my 20th year of teaching. I teach a wide range of ages, from young children to adults, taking care to tailor my guidance to each person’s age and experience. I have received many Best Instructor and Excellent Instructor awards at the Japan Ballet Competition, the Victoire Ballet Competition, and others. The studio has held nine recitals to date, staging works such as Coppélia, The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, and The Awakening of Flora. In 2025 I presented an original production of Coppélia in full, and in 2026 I performed the role of Madge in La Sylphide, produced by Fuki Ballet Art Production. I value cultivating not only ballet technique but also manners, expressiveness, and confidence, and I strive to make my lessons ones that children experiencing ballet for the first time — and families visiting from overseas — can join with ease and enjoyment. It would be my pleasure to offer a warm, special ballet experience that becomes a cherished memory of your time in Japan. Today I teach a wide range of ages from young children to adults — not only beginner children but also athletes from other disciplines such as roller figure skating and rhythmic gymnastics. I also put real effort into lessons that parents and children can enjoy together, and I care about creating an environment where whole families can take part with peace of mind.
