Kirakoko Kids Karuizawa

An experience-based, inclusive childcare in Nagakura, Karuizawa, Nagano. Children are cared for in small, mixed-age, family-like groups where each child's own pace is valued, watched over warmly by dedicated professionals. It is a multilingual-friendly space, open to the languages and cultures of the world. For families visiting Karuizawa on a trip or a workation, Kirakoko takes children from age 0 to 12 as drop-in care — and never asks your reason for it: while you sightsee or step out, while you work, or simply when you would like a little time to refresh, you are welcome to come as you are. Parents may use a Wi-Fi-equipped coworking space on site around drop-off/pick-up. Parking, bike parking, and a stroller area are available. Opened June 2025.

This school personally meets every family first — a short hello to make sure it's a good fit.

• First meeting — For first-time users only, we ask for a visit or a meeting before your first session.

• What you pay — Rates are per child, per hour. Ages 0–2: ¥2,000. Ages 3–6: ¥1,500. Membership is required: a one-time ¥5,000 joining fee applies to your first booking. Your card is saved when you book and is charged the day before your visit. Optional: lunch and snacks ¥1,000 a day, nappies and wipes ¥300 a day.

• Staff to children — Japan's national minimum, by age: one member of staff for every 3 children under 1, every 6 aged 1–2, every 15 aged 3. Kirakoko is a licensed small-scale (A-type) facility, which requires one further member of staff on top of that standard.

• If your child becomes unwell — If your child's condition worsens during care, Kirakoko contacts you immediately and follows your instructions. If they cannot reach you, they contact your emergency contact and, where needed, arrange ambulance transport or other urgent care.

• Insurance — Kirakoko carries liability and accident insurance with Sompo Japan. Where an accident during care is found to be Kirakoko’s fault, compensation is paid within the limits of that cover.
