Kimono Keepsake Workshop

Choose a real kimono with a past and give it a new life as a one-of-a-kind piece. Families start at the rail, working through silks, yukata cotton and heavy obi brocade until they find the one they want — the choosing is half the hour, and children are usually decisive about it. Daniel then talks briefly about where the piece came from and what its pattern meant, and everyone cuts, folds and assembles their own keepsake at their own workstation. All standard materials are included and it is designed for complete beginners, so nobody needs to have sewn before. Everyone leaves with one finished handmade piece, made from fabric somebody once wore. A parent works alongside each child for the whole session.

Everything is provided — the kimono fabric, the tools and all standard materials. Come as you are; there is no cutting or ironing that will spoil clothes. Two steps at the entrance and a step down into the bathroom, so wheelchair access is difficult.
