About
An hour at the writing table with a brush, real ink and the classroom’s own paper. She starts where a first-timer actually starts — how the brush is held, how much ink it carries, how a stroke begins and ends — and writes a model in vermilion for the child to work from, the same way her regular students learn. A child chooses one character and writes it until one of them is worth keeping, and that one comes home. No one is expected to have held a brush before.
Requirements
- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday only — the calendar shows the times the classroom actually opens.
- A parent or guardian stays for the session. Watching is free; an adult who wants to write as well books a place.
- Taught in Japanese. Nothing on the classroom’s side is offered in English, so bring a translation app if you need one.
- Everything is provided — paper, ink, pens and pencils. Come in clothes that ink will not spoil.
